Thesis Essay

In New York City teens experience many things. They face many struggles that many people don’t know about. Teens face issues in and outside of school. It is important for adults and teens to know the issues that teens face in New York City because it will help to better New York City.
Some of the issues that teens are faced with include abuse and violence. This is important for adults and teens to be aware of because they can help to put a stop to it if they know what is going on. According to a survey taken by teens, 90% of them were worried about violence and 20-25% were worried about a friend who faced abuse at home.(Fine)
Some issues that teens face in New York City also include depression and thoughts of suicide. According to the same survey, 90% or more had a friend who thought about suicide and 100% had a friend who was seriously depressed. These issues are very important to know because adults and teens together can help to make a change (Fine).
Drug and alcohol problems are also issues that teens are faced with. According to the survey 100% of the teens said that they had a friend that had a serious drug or alcohol problem and 100% said that they had a friend who was sexually active, half of these teens wished that they were not. (Fine) This type of issue affects more than just that teen. It affects every one around them. This type of behavior can lead to the rise of STD’s in the teen community and the rise of teen pregnancy.
This is important for parents to be aware of because they need to have a better relationship with their children so that teens would be able to turn to their parents more. 15% of people said they could turn to their parents but what about the other 85% that said they couldn't? (Fine) If a teen has a good relationship with their parent they would be less likely to try to do things on their own. This can help to lower the percentage of teens faced with depression and drug and alcohol abuse and more.
Inside of school teens face issues as well. They are faced with bullying, the pressure of getting good grades, “fitting in” with others, and spending time with friends. According to the same survey 100% of the teens encountered insults and bullying on a daily basis in school. (Fine)
The issues that teens experience are important for adults and teens to be aware of in order to help make a change. In school and outside of school teens face issues such as bullying, violence, depression, drug and alcohol problems and more. A PowerPoint presentation expressing these issues can help make a change in New York City.

I completely agree. I have purchased a new book that I found from a company in Texas. The book focuses on teen issues that I will be talking about with my three children. Anyway, I thought it was cool. www.tools4teens.net
